QUALITY WINES FROM AUSTRIA
A quality wine from Austria is a wine with a protected designation of origin and may therefore only be made from grapes that were harvested in the specified region of origin. The maximum yield per hectare is 9000kg. This class is the last quality level in Austria that can be sweetened if the sugar content of the grapes is too low. The total alcohol in a red quality wine must not exceed 14.5 vol%, in a white wine the limit is 13.5 vol%. A quality wine must undergo an official test and, if successful, receives a state test number.
